James Allen McKinney, Sr., 68, a beloved father, brother, and friend, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024 in Starkville, Oktibbeha County, MS. He was born on July 30, 1956, in Clay County, MS, to the late John Allen McKinney and Bernice Starks. James is remembered for his unwavering spirit and the love he shared with his family and friends.
James a devoted father to four sons: Kentonia, Jermane, James Jr., and Christopher, who carry forward his legacy and values. He cherished his role as a father and took pride in nurturing and guiding his children through life's many challenges. His love for them was evident in all aspects of his life.
In addition to his sons, James is survived by four brothers: Gary (Rosie) McKinney, Clarence McKinney, Nelson (Dell) Mckinney, and Olen (Sara) McKinney; and four sisters: Nancy M. Lee Robinson, Elvira M. Cork, Rosie M. Shumaker, and Linda M. (Willie) Bowens; one sister-in-law: Beverly McKinney; a special friend: Annie Louise Poe, and her daughter, Letisha Poe, all of whom will forever hold dear the memories of their time together. The bond they shared was enriched by countless moments of laughter, support, and camaraderie that defined their family connection.
James was preceded in death by his father, John Allen McKinney; his mother, Bernice Starks; and one brother, whose memory will remain cherished among those who knew and loved him. James is also preceded in death by one brother: Jimmy D. McKinney. His grandparents: Isaac and Emma H. McKinney; and James A. and Roberta C. Starks.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate the life of James Allen McKinney, Sr. A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2024, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a Celebration of Life service starting at 11:00 AM. Both events will take place at Bluff Creek Missionary Baptist Church, located at 6800 Hwy 50 West, Maben, MS, 39750.
James Allen McKinney, Sr. will be deeply missed, yet his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched throughout his life.
