Jessie Mae Smith, 89, born on August 20, 1935, transitioned peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Monroe Regional Hospital in Aberdeen, Mississippi. A devoted wife, loving mother, and cherished sister, Jessie leaves behind a legacy of kindness and strength that will be forever remembered by those who were fortunate enough to know her.
Jessie was married to Willie Earl Smith, her partner in life, and together they forged a bond that served as a strong foundation for their family. She is survived by her beloved husband, Willie Earl Smith, as well as her sons, Johnnie (Tiny) Bates, Jeffrey (Ranae) Bates, Clinton (Andrea) Smith, Joe Lee (Kathy) Smith, and Leroy Smith; as well as her daughter, Carol Bates, and her brother, Elzie Howell.
Jessie also cherished her role as a mother and will be deeply missed by her family, particularly in the enduring memory of her late son, Willie Earl Smith, Jr. She was preceded in death by her father, Bennie Howell, and mother, Manie Cockerham; her brothers, Jim Howell and Roy Howell.
Her life will be celebrated during a visitation set for Tuesday, March 25, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, located at 216 Hwy 25 South, PO Box 129, Aberdeen, MS. The following day, Wednesday, March 26, 2025, family and friends are invited to join in a heartfelt Celebration of Life at 11:00 AM at Smith Chapel Holiness Church, located at 50068 Burr Road, Aberdeen, MS.
