Johnny M. Griffin, Sr. died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, MS.
He served a tour in the Vietnam War from 1965 to 1968 as a medic. He was discharged in 1968 with a Purple Heart. He served as chairman of the NAACP for eight years. He retired from General Motors after 35 years.
Services will be held Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Union Grove M.B. Church in Nettleton. The Pastor Perry Carr will be officiating.
Visitation will be Friday, May 3, 2013 from 2-5 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in the Union Grove Church Cemetery.
He his survived by his wife, Gloris, four sons, Johnny (Onyah) Griffin, Jr. of Grand Rapids, MI, Melvi Griffifn of Indianapolis, IN, Fredrick Chapman of Wren,, 3 daughters, Yolonda Griffin of Memphis, TN, Omisha Bragg of Wren, and Jessica Moncrief of Lake Jackson, TX, two brothers, Michael (Rose) Griffin of Wren and Lee Floyd (Lealer) Pierce of Wren, two sisters, Mary Brown of Wren and Lisa (leon) Birks of Wren, and 14 grandchildren.
