Malla Lieu Pulliam, Jr., 81, of Chickasaw County, Mississippi, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo, MS. He was born on April 7, 1943, in Houston, MS, and lived a life dedicated to service, education, and community engagement.

A proud veteran of the United States Army, Malla exemplified a commitment to his country and community from an early age. His professional journey was marked by his work with many civic and community organizations where he championed equality and justice. As a teacher and coach at the Woodland School District and later as a coach at the Coffeeville School District, and he retired from the Houston School District where he touched the lives of countless students, inspiring them to achieve both academically and athletically. His passion for education extended beyond the classroom; he served as a Deacon, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer, demonstrating his deep faith and commitment to his church community.

Malla's contributions to the community did not stop there. As a mentor for the Youth Challenge Program, he played a vital role in guiding and supporting young people as they navigated their paths to success. His dedication to farming highlighted his connection to the land and his commitment to providing for his family. In his spare time, Malla enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, such as playing solitaire, carpentry, and reading—a testament to his love for learning and creativity.

He leaves behind a loving family, including his wife, Arfalia Walker Pulliam; sons, Malla Lieu Pulliam III and Donnie Pulliam; daughters, Donna T. Shelwood and Lynayla L. Cooper; and brothers, M. Earl Pulliam, Sammy K. Pulliam, and Thomas Gene Pulliam. He was preceded in death by his father, Malla Lieu Pulliam, Sr., and his mother, Toily C. Bowen Pulliam.

Malla Lieu Pulliam, Jr. will be remembered not only for his immense contributions to his community but also for the loving relationships he nurtured throughout his life. His legacy of service, dedication, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen, MS. A Celebration of Life will take place the following day, Saturday, January 25, 2025, at 11:00 AM at New Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, MS..
