Virgie Mae Griffin, 76, beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 in her hometown of Aberdeen, Mississippi. Born on October 7, 1948, Virgie was a lifelong resident of the community she cherished so deeply.
The daughter of the late Willie Ann Tallie and Andy Cunningham, Virgie grew up in a nurturing environment that instilled her the values of compassion and kindness. Virgie was preceded in death also by four brothers: Andy Cunningham, Jr., Phillip Cunningham, James Cunningham, and Robert Cunningham; five sisters: Cindy Cunningham, Addie B. Gunn, Susie Mae Word, Annette Vasser, and Lillian Cunningham; one step-son: Clarence Griffin.
She spent her formative years surrounded by and developed strong bonds with her siblings, including Patricia (Wallace) Byars, Ann White, Denise Cunningham, and Sarah (Robert) Vasser. These relationships were a cornerstone of her life, contributing to the warmth and love that defined her character. She also leaves to cherish her memories, one brother-in-law: Arzabria Vasser; four sisters-in-law: Stella Tero, Georgia (Darryl) Woods, Mary Cunningham, and Cynthia Cunningham
In her journey through life, Virgie found her partner in Willie Griffin. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love, built on mutual respect and companionship. Together, they raised their two children, Vaughn (Tawanda) Johnson, Jr. and Hope Johnson, who became the pride and joy of their family. Virgie's dedication as a mother was evident in the care and attention she provided, shaping the lives of her children with love and wisdom. Additionally, Virgie had one step-daughter: Annette Howell; seven step-sons: James Howard, Jo Michael Howard, Mark Gates, Antoine Griffin, Sr., Brian Deavens, Tony (Ciera) Grear, and Darnell (Alice) Lucas.
Virgie's spirit was characterized by her unwavering support for those around her. Her kindness extended beyond her immediate family, reaching her wider circle of friends and acquaintances. She created a nurturing space for everyone she met, leaving a lasting impact on the hearts she touched.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Belle Memorial Funeral Home, located at 216 Hwy 25 South, Aberdeen, MS. A Celebration of Life will be held the following day, Sunday, November 3, 2024, at Payne Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, beginning at 2:00 PM.
